Vitalik Buterin proposed a method of reducing the cost of transactions in L2 for Ethereum
Vitalik Buterin introduced a second -level road development card (L2) based on Rollups technology for Ethereum. To increase the throughput, he proposed limiting the amount of data in the block and in stages to enter a cartoon.
A roadmap for how data space available to rollups can be greatly expanded (and hence rollup fees greatly reduced) progressively, starting from calldata gas cost reduction and continuing with step-by-step rollout of sharding:https://t.CO/TIXZVKINSN

“In short -term and medium -term prospects, and possibly in the long -term, Rollups is the only reliable solution for the scaling of Ethereum. The commissions on the main network have remained very high for several months, so it is urgent to do everything you need to promote the transition of the ecosystem to this technology, ”the publication says.
According to Butaterin, it is worth starting with limiting the volume of CALLDATA data in the block and reducing the cost of the corresponding operations from 16 gas units for up to three. In this space, the information provided when the smart contract is called.
The relevant proposal (EIP-4488) has Що таке KYC у крипті? already been published by the founder of Ethereum and developer Mika Zolt. According to them, the measure will increase the throughput of L2 without increasing the size of the block.
Buterin noted that there is an alternative solution – to reduce the cost of operations associated with Calldata without the introduction of limits on the amount of data. He explained that this is a simpler idea, which, however, can threaten security during implementation.
“Now the average block size is 60-90 KB, but its maximum size is 1.875 MB. If you simply reduce the cost of Calldata from 16 to three gas units, the maximum block size will grow to 10 MB. This will lead to an unprecedented load on the network and will create a risk of disconnecting it. Previous tests of blocks of about 500 KB have already disabled several loading nodes, ”Buterin said.
According to the proposal of the developers, the size of the block will be limited at 1.5 MB levels. According to them, this is enough to prevent “most of the risks for security”.
If the community supports the initiative, the network will be updated, which will allow you to recalculate gas expenses. Users will be able to continue to interact with the protocol unchanged, and the miners will be enough to establish a new rule.
Buterin emphasized that in the long run the only acceptable solution for scaling is the cartoon. However, its implementation will take a long time.
As expected, initially the developers will introduce “a small number of hearts, for example, four”. In the future, this number will increase to 64.
After the integration of the Chardas, L2-solution on the basis of Rollups will send transactions in two stages. On the first, the data is placed in the spacecraft, on the second – the transaction itself occurs.
The developers noted that Optimism and Arbitrum are already using a two -stage design, so for the code of these projects there will be no serious changes.
Second -level solutions can significantly reduce transaction commissions. According to L2 Fees, at the time of writing for the transfer of ETH in the main network you will have to pay $ 7.9 – using Looping, for example, allows you to reduce this amount to $ 0.2.
At the same time, some operations remain quite expensive even in L2-networks. For swap tokens through Optimism will have to pay more than $ 3 commissions (in the main network the amount would exceed $ 32).
Recall that the general director of the Singapore venture fund Three Arrows Capital Su Zhu criticized Ethereum for high commissions that do not allow newcomers to the market to use this blockchain.
